Addiction is a process that can have a direct and insidious impact on the health and well-being of not only the individual, but also their family and those around them. Negative situations caused by addiction can have a profound impact on the individual’s social relationships, mental state and general quality of life.
Anecdote
Addiction is a progressive and fatal disease of disconnection. In active addiction we are disconnected within ourselves. Our body, mind and spirit are disconnected.
We are also disconnected from others in our lives. Our main relationship is based on a through the drugs we consume. If not treated, addiction may and often times become fatal.
We establish behaviors based on this pattern which we use to destroy and destruct ourselves. These behaviors may and will manifest themselves throughout the healing journey of an addict often seen as relapse. Addicts do not need drugs or identified behavior to relapse – which is to fall back into our pattern of isolation and alienating ourselves. May that be within ourselves or with others around us. Often times both.
